He has decided to live forever, even if he has to die in the attempt. Catch is a microcosm of the twentieth-century world as it might look to someone dangerously sane.

As I recall it was new and the seller received positive feed-back from me/5(45). Captain John Yossarian, the novel's protagonist, is a bombardier in the th Squadron of the Army Air Forces during World War II, stationed on Pianosa, a fictionalized island in the Mediterranean between mainland Italy and Corsica.

The squadron's assignment is to bomb enemy positions in Italy and eastern France. It is the summer ofbut. This book, in my opinion, and in the minds of many others, is one of the best novels written in the 20th century. Catch is a unique piece of writing that breaks all moulds.

I read it on a whim, and I was so thoroughly satisfied that I searched for other books like it and couldn't find anything that equalled it/5(K). Download or stream CATCH by Joseph Heller.

Fifty years after its original publication, Catch remains a cornerstone of American literature and one of the funniest—and most celebrated—books of all time. In recent years it has been named to “best novels” lists by Time, Newsweek, the Modern Library, and the London Observer/5(91).

IMO, Catch is a superb book, and just perfect for my taste: dark humour and seemingly crazy hijinks rooted in satire of real social and political issues. That may not be everyone’s cup of tea.

Also, the non-chronological story and huge cast of characters may be difficult to follow. Unlike what Yossarian feels for the chaplain, this is not.

It has its own style, its own rationale, its own extraordinary character. It moves back and forth from hilarity to horror. It is outrageously funny and characters, and chapter do reintroduce people from the early parts of the book.

This may be.
