Iridoviridae is a family of viruses with double-stranded DNA genomes. Amphibians, fish, and invertebrates such as arthropods serve as natural hosts. There are currently 19 species in this family, divided among two subfamilies and six : incertae sedis.   The architecture, organization, and packaging of viral genetic information can be divided into three categories: monopartite, segmented, and multipartite viruses. Monopartite viruses have a single nucleic acid molecule protected in a shell made of Cited by:

Viral Envelope. Most animal viruses also have an envelope surrounding a polyhedral or helical nucleocapsid, in which case they are called enveloped viruses (Figure \(\PageIndex{3}\)).The envelope may come from the host cell's nuclear membrane, vacuolar membranes (packaged by the Golgi apparatus), or outer cytoplasmic membrane.. Figure \(\PageIndex{3}\): Viral Structure (left) Enveloped. Susan Payne, in Viruses, Genome Organization. Bornaviruses have monopartite, negative-strand RNA genomes of ~9 kb. They encode six proteins (N, P, X, M, G, and L) and the gene order is reminiscent of other members of the order r the transcription strategy is unique in that splicing is used to generate some mRNAs. mRNA splicing is in line with the nuclear location of.

It has been known for a long time that the majority of plant viruses contain RNA and in the past decade and a half it has been realized that many have genomes consisting of three molecules of single-stranded RNA with positive polarity.

Harrison, A. Murant (eds.) This fifth volume in the series The Plant Viruses, dealing with viruses with bipartite genomes, completes the coverage. All those with tripartite genomes are considered to be sufficiently closely related to be included in the family Bromoviridae, whereas the monopartite-genome viruses covered in Volume 3 clearly are a much more diverse collection.

Affinities among the viruses with bipartite genomes are considered in Chapter 1 of this volume. COVID Resources. Viruses belonging to the genera Sequivirus and Waikavirus, which have a single large monopartite genome, sediment with S20,W values of –S.

For viruses with a bipartite genome, virions containing RNA1 (B component) sediment at –S. Viruses are small obligate intracellular parasites, which by definition contain either a RNA or DNA genome surrounded by a protective, virus-coded protein coat. Viruses may be viewed as mobile genetic elements, most probably of cellular origin and characterized by a long co-evolution of virus and host.

For propagation viruses depend on specialized host cells supplying the complex metabolic and Cited by:. Morris TJ and Carrington JC () Carnation mottle virus and viruses with similar properties.
